This decorative glass shelf with unique dripping edge is only possible in glass. By definition, glass is a super cooled liquid. I have designed and built a specialized kiln in order to create this dripped edge effect by custom bending 3/4” of glass. This has enabled me to make unique custom furniture, custom shelves and custom bar tops. Glass as a media is virtually untapped. I feel there is so much more to be done in glass. We can push it so much farther and created more unique pieces by developing custom techniques like the dripped edge.

Decorative glass shelves make a very strong design statement. The shelves add to the artwork they hold or display, yet do not overpower the art. Another important component to any display is lighting, which I address right from the start of any project. Furthermore, the key to designing floating glass shelves is the lack of hardware. Brackets are needed to hold the decorative glass shelves but they must not be a focal point. I design and fabricate the custom hardware needed to install my contemporary glass shelves.

I designed this glass pedestal sink that includes a built-in garbage disposal. The pedestal is uniquely designed and wrapped with stainless steel. I also installed a floor switch to operate the disposal. The sink uses two and a half inch stainless steel stand offs, which bond the sink to the black granite counter top. I designed my kiln in order to make glass pieces, as pictured here, with a dripping glass edge. However, this is only one of the many things I can do with glass. I design glass furniture, glass shelves, bent glass picture walls, glass railings, glass floors, and just about anything else with glass. I can cast, bend, slump, blow, lost wax cast, lamp work, cold work (beveling), drill and mill glass in order to create the desired effect or look. I have many new, creative ideas and am always looking for good clients, interior designers, and architects to share them with.

We designed these windows for the new Saint Edward High School (Lakewood, Ohio) chapel in late 2008. We created windows mounted with 1000 rainbow like glass drip pieces. Each of the individual drips radiate yellow green light in reflected light. In translucent light, the color shifts through the yellow to orange to red and to lavendar spectrum depending upon where you view it from.

The windows were created by laminating a diachloric film between the glass and the drip which allows the light to pass through and create a rainbow of colors. The final product, a non tradional stained glass window is a unique glass blowing technique that demonstrates the master craftsmanship of Marc Konys.

The art glass lighting projects displayed above were designed by Marc Konys. These shelves are are made of metal. The philosophy behind the design was to make the shelves minimal to highlight the glass art. They are made of stainless steel and powered with 12 volts. In this case, Marc flew to this client’s house discussed the project with the homeowner. He sketched out, designed, constructed, and installed the lighting. He determined that the lighting and shelving project should be elegant and warm.

I designed this custom glass sink for a client who was seeking a one of a kind accent for their bathroom. As you can see from the images contained in this post, the glass bathroom sink is created by securing a large three fourths inch tempered glass piece to metal stand offs. The metal stand off pieces are placed under the mount of the glass sink.

Custom glass shelves   and  custom hardware makes a real statement. I wanted to give a real floating feel to the shelves so I designed a simple bracket  that the glass shelf would just set on.  The glass shelf doesn’t  go all the way from post to post it stops short.

The  3/4″  thick custom glass shelves are very elegant . I like designing custom hardware ” its the detail” .
